top 6 anime about growth

Whether it be the start of the new year, the passing of a birthday, or a sudden burst of inspiration, it’s not uncommon for us all to find a new fire for growth and change now and then. here is a list of my top 6 anime about growth in one way or another, in no particular order.

1. Your Lie in April

Kosei grows with the help of Kaori to better understand the people around him, as well as himself. Sometimes we all need a helping hand to better hear the beautiful music of life’s song. Warning: you may cry while watching this show.

2. Gurren Lagonn

This one is a bit more light than the other titles on this list, but it is still an amazing show with a story of overcoming self doubt and personal growth at its core. Plus Kamina might be one of the most fun-loving mentor characters ever.

3. Haikyu!!

Being a short guy is enough for most people to quit the sport of volleyball, but Hinata’s attitude and love for the game drive him forward. This show is an amazing depiction of how determination, focus, and teamwork can combine to make even the wildest dreams feel tangible.

4. Hajime No Ippo

A chance encounter and Ippo’s simple desire to become less cowardly and more confident lead him to dive into the world of boxing. I may be biased, but nothing is more hype than a boxing training arc, and this show is full of them. The amount of growth in this show is inspiring and makes you want to hop off the couch and go hit the grindstone.

5. Spirited away

Who said movies can’t make it onto this list? Tanjiro is down right annoying when this movie starts. It's amazing what a new environment, a little freedom and new responsibility can do to develop someone’s character. This is one of the classics for a reason.

6. A Silent Voice

I usually make these lists with five subjects, but after I opened up the door to movies by adding Spirited Away, there was no way that I was not going to also mention A Silent Voice. This movie is raw and possesses an almost uncomfortable ability to make you reflect on your past behavior and that of those around you. I think it's impossible for the viewer to walk away from this movie unchanged in some way.
